Shutters (or Plantation shutters) can be made from a variety of materials, and can be either manufactured in Australia or imported. Australian made shutters have a significantly shorter lead time as well as other benefits, depending on which product is selected.
Timber is the traditional material to manufacture shutters from, and imported timber shutters are the entry level product. There is a wide variety of stains and colours to choose from.
A great alternative to imported shutters, Thermalite shutters are made from a dense polymer foam, with a special painted surface giving it a water resistant finish. Thermalite are Australian made, and have a short turnaround time.
Aluminium shutters are increasingly popular for patio areas as they are lockable and can have fly screens incorporated during the manufacturing process, as well as an optional higher wind rating. Aluminium shutters can be imported or Australian made and come in a variety of colours.
Luxaflex PolySatin ShuttersThe Luxaflex PolySatin shutters are our favourite, enjoying the longest warranty period on the finished surface (20 years internal or external use), are Australian made and are fully waterproof. Incorporating an anti-static property during the manufacturing process that helps repel dirt, they are the lowest maintenance shutter that we know of, and are simple to remove from their hinges enabling easy cleaning if required. The special UV stabilised surface of the PolySatin also means that stains cannot adhere to the surface and can be cleaned off easily (even permanent marker pen!). With hardly any VOC’s, they are also the child friendly option.
We feel they are the ideal product for our tropical climate.
